QUIZ NIGHT - SAT 26TH NOVEMBERNew!
After last week's Saturday night opening attracting a few darts and table tennis players, I am happy to advertise the second Saturday night opening of the winter at CWCC.

We will be holding a quiz night on Saturday 26th November 2016. The bar will open at 7.30 pm and we hope to get the quiz underway at 8pm.

Teams (with a maximum of 6 participants) can be decided in advance or on the night and there will be a £1 charge per head (all proceeds going to the club).

Please let me know if you form a team in advance (patelvikash@hotmail.com).

Draught beer will be on special again at £2.50 a pint and £9 for a 4 pint jug.

Another quick reminder that Awards Dinner tickets are now up for sale at £40. This is always a great night so be sure to book your tickets soon as awards evening is less than 3 weeks away!. If you have any questions then please feel free to get in touch with myself (patelvikash@hotmail.com) or Johnny (johnny_rice@hotmail.co.uk).

We are trying to get more events at CWCC over the winter to help support the club. If you have any ideas of what you'd like to see at the club over the off-season then please get in touch.

Look forward to seeing many of you at the awards night and quiz night in November!

Honorary members and Friends - Lunch New!
The annual Honorary members and Friends of the Club lunch was held yesterday, 2nd October. Guest of honour was Life Member and octogenarian Rex Vine who played for the Club and Hertfordshire as a superb left arm spinner from the 1950s and into the 1970s. He looked after the square, preparing wickets for Saturday and Sunday cricket throughout the season. It was great for the older members to meet up with him again. Denys Downing our President spoke of our pleasure in seeing him again and thanked the caterers from the Rose and Crown for providing an excellent lunch for all to enjoy.

A bizarre but brilliant day to behold - New!
As the title suggests, our teams really pulled their fingers out when deciding their fancy dress themes this year. 8 teams took part including a firm of Italian plumbers, a set of farmers and their sheep, some jockeys and a bunch of bananas accompanied by incredibly protective Gorillas!

The day got off to a bit of a damp start with intermittent (and thankfully short) showers but this did not deter our competitors. Only twice was play stopped and some great cricket was played by all. Luckily the sunshine returned for the remainder of the days play and the BBQ and bar was well attended throughout.

With the Bananas and Gorillas rushing off to a wedding of some sort it meant a bowl-off ensued for which team would take the extra spot in the semi-finals. After one of the teams was disqualified for overly aggressive captaincy, the semi-finals were contested between the farmers, plumbers, jockeys and some stray kiwis.

With the night drawing in, the plumbers eventually came out on top and were crowned CHAMPIONS! With Karaoke being the source of entertainment for the evening crowd, 'The Shack' was given a good rocking until the early hours. Notable performances came from Vikash 'Punjabi MC' Patel and Stevie 'Wonder' Ord - not a dry eye in the house for his renditions I can assure you!

Many thanks go to everyone who made the day a success and we all look forward to Club Day 2017 (which is Sunday 27th August for those of you who like to plan ahead!).

CWCC - Community Day August Bank HolNew!
After 2 years of bad weather, the annual event took place under cloudless skies once more. 24 mostly mature members of the Chorleywood Community assembled to contest two 20:20 matches on the Common. It was certainly competitive and quite conveniently the matches ended with honours even between the two sides

Match 1. Team B, 165 -7, from 20 overs v Team A,169-7 with a 4 off the last ball to win the match.

Match 2. Team B, 147- AO from 20 overs beat Team A, 137 AO from 19.5 overs Hopefully the contest was resolved with only a few aches and pains and no serious injuries. Fine fare was provided with bacon sandwiches for breakfast, and a lunch and a BBQ supported with the usual liquid refreshment helped to continue the festivities into the early evening when families and friends joined in the fun and the banter.

Simon DareNew!
Everybody at Chorleywood CC is devastated by the news that Simon Dare passed away peacefully at Harefield Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Monday 18th January.

Simon was the backbone of our club with all of his work in a number of key roles behind the scenes as well as his consistently superb batting performances over many years. His website record of 13970 runs is astonishing and shows the desire to keep churning out scores that made him the envy of everybody he played with – although it would be remiss not to mention his bowling: especially the 28 wickets he picked up in 2015!

Simon was a legend in Hertfordshire cricket – from his time at Bushey CC as well as his years at The Wood – but we all also knew him as a dedicated family man who always spoke with love and pride about Patti, Freddie, Harriet, George & Will.

We will not see the likes of Simon again – and it was an all too brief honour to know him.

Please help fund & support the vital work of Cardiomyopathy UK at https://www.justgiving.com/SDare?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_content=SDare&utm_campaign=pfp-share-mobile

RIP Darey.

An important message from Freddie DareNew!
Hi All

As you may know my family have had a tough year. Simon Dare was diagnosed with heart failure in April and now awaiting a mechanical heart to be put in and Patti Dare was diagnosed with cancerous brain tumours in August.

I have therefore decided to try and do some good out of this and raise as much money as possible for two great charities: The British Heart Foundation and The Brain Tumour Charity. To raise money for this I will be doing a 12hr straight cycle ride at the William Penn Leisure Centre on Saturday 16th January.

So how can you help?

- Donate money to support my cycling efforts - http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=FreddieDare21

- Buy a raffle ticket – You can do this by donating on the above page or seeing me in person. £5 a strip (anyone who has already or does donate will be entered) Prizes to be confirmed but they are looking pretty good! Any raffle donations are welcome too.

- Support on the day – Either by cycling with me for part of my 12hrs or just coming down to support me at William Penn. We will be collecting on the day and selling raffle tickets.

If you want to get in touch either call me on: 07772218172 or email me Freddiex.Dare@DixonsCarphone.com

Thanks very much for your support

Freddie
