U9 County ChampionsNew!
Chorleywood U9s are County Champions !

Our U9s led by manager Graeme Keith won a thrilling County Cup final on Sunday.

With 2 runs needed off the last ball of the match a 4 was hit to seal a magnificent victory !

In the semi final they beat Harpenden 237-9 v Chorleywood 277-5.

In the final they beat Watford Town 267-6 v Chorleywood 270-3

This is a fantastic achievement for the the team, both Harpeden and Watford were very strong teams and had not lost a match all season.

The U9s played exceptionally well and are worthy Champions.

Well done to all those who played in the final and to all the boys in the squad that made reaching the finals possible.

The victory is a result of a campaign started in late January with training every week and fantastic coaching from Graeme, Anthony Hall, Thomas Faulkner and Chris Boxall with plenty of parent help and support.

Well done all, the Club is proud of you.

Josie DacreNew!
It is with great sadness that I report of the sudden passing of Josie Dacre.

Josie was a great supporter of CWCC.

She had lived in Chorleywood most of her life and she was responsible we believe for opening the Sports Shop in Whitelands Avenue and giving discounts to local cricketers!

Josie's funeral wll be at Amersham Crematorium at 1pm on Thursday 18th October, and afterwards back at the house.  Parking will be limited.  Bright colours may be worn.

Josie will be sorely missed and our immediate thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Presidents XI v. CWCC- Sunday 17/9New!
Well I suppose the Presidents XI could say they were inhibited by the pre-match lunch provided by the Rose and Crown but nevertheless an excellent afternoon was preceded by the meal attended by Friends and Retired players alike. Thanks again to all who supported the event and particularly our President Mr Denys Downing for his generous sponsorship. (see Results for detail). Thanks also must go to the Rose and Crown (our preferred local hostelry) and Rhonda in particular for lunch.

August Bank HolidayNew!
The weekend was unbelievably busy, monopolised generally by men behaving badly. Sunday was Club Day with teams of 8 in fancy dress competing for a dubious honour. The Monday was Community Day when slightly more mature players who ought to have known better decided to play cricket for the one and only time this year. A good time was had by all and no serious injuries were reported from either day.

Andrew NealNew!
We are delighted to report that Andrew Neal has been called up to play for Hertfordshire against Lincolnshire in a Minor Counties Unicorns three-day Championship match at Cleethorpes. Andrew is the first Chorleywood player to represent Hertfordshire for over twenty years. The previous two players we know of who played for Hertfordshire were Rex Vine and Ian Mulholland. Andrew opened the bowling and his analysis was ten overs, one for 24. Lincolnshire won convincingly but we hope for more opportunities for our Mr. Neal.

CWCC v Rose and CrownNew!
What is now an annual fixture in the village took place on August 13th ,which is cricket day when Chorleywood Cricket Club take on the cricketing might of the Rose and Crown, CW's finest hostelry. On a beautiful English sunny afternoon two teams at the top of their form, one for cricket and one for drinking, played out an innings each in front of a record attendance. CWCC won, even though the Rose had the popular ex England stalwart and opening bowler, Gladstone Small, in their line up. An all day BBQ added to the festivities and everybody finished the day with a satisfied smile on their faces for a typically excellent English village day.

CWCC U11 County ChampionsNew!
Finals day 2017 was the culmination of a great summer’s cricket for the Chorleywood U11s 8 a side team. Having gone through their group games unbeaten and winning their quarter final against Hemel on the Common, the team for finals day at Hatfield & Crusaders was selected. Across the season 21 boys had played in the matches, a reflection of the depth at the club and the potential the year group has, fortunately holidays and wider commitments helped simplify the selection a little but still allowed for a strong team. We were drawn to play Bishops Stortford in our semi, while in the other match Berkhamsted played Knebworth. We batted first and despite some nerves resulting in a few cheap wickets we rallied to 291-7 with good contributions from George Edwards, Tom Ford, Isaac Weintrob and Callum Scott, all of whom made good double figure scores. The team, now starting to find their feet then bowled and fielded well, with Shay Popat and Isaac Weintrob standing out with 6 wickets between them as Bishops Stortford lost 12 wickets (-60 runs) across their innings finishing on 247. A good 44 run win gave the boys confidence as they looked forward to the final. In the other semi-final a strong Knebworth side outplayed Berkhamsted, winning comfortably.

The Chorleywood team played their best cricket in the final, batting first and scoring 303-3. All the boys scored runs, with notable contributions from Isaac and Callum with a 35 run opening stand, Max Davies with 17 not out and to conclude the innings 12 from the last 4 balls as Niyan Kakad showed off his expansive stroke play.

The fielding and bowling was of an incredibly high standard with James Turton leading the way with a very good keeping performance. All the boys contributed with the ball, with Shay and Callum taking 7 wickets between them. The pressure the boys put on Knebworth strangled the run chase with Chorleywood running out winners by 63 runs. Thank you to Jamie Ford (team manager) and all who supported the boys this year; coaches, parents and the wider club, here’s to 2018!
