Chorleywood Sunday 1sts - League v Abbots Langley |
20th Aug 06 - CV - The Common |
Tied |
On an excellent cricket wicket neighbours Chorleywood and Abbotts Langley played out a thrilling 45 over Chess Valley league match. Batting first Abbots totalled 194-7. Initially pegged back by a fine opening spell of 1-9 off 6 overs by 16 year old Lynden Ryan and an excellent display of leg spin from James Rose 2-27 off 8 overs, Abbots set a competitive target with young James Edbrooke top scoring on 45 helping the away team bash 50 in the last 5 overs. CWCC started well but when skipper Simon Dare was out or 37 at 86-2 off 18 overs Abbotts re-established control. Ben Brown bowled brilliantly making the ball move off the seam and his spell of 7 over 2-13 looked to have won the match as the Wood needed 90 runs off 10 overs. However Simon Botterill then came to the crease and smashed 53 of 30 balls including 19 off Dave Carlisle. This left the Wood 2 short with 5 wickets in hand and one over to go. Left arm spinner Fossie Foster took the responsibility for Abbotts; he had Botterill caught at long off off the first ball. Conceded a single second ball, Robin Webb on 41 blocked the third but then was caught of the 4th with the scores level, Foster then took 2 more wickets of the final 2 balls to leave the match tied on 194.
