Chorleywood Sunday 2nds - League v Old Albanian |
28th May 06 - CV - Away |
Won by 150 runs |
The sunday 2's played their first Chess Valley league game of the season away at Old Albanians and once the game got under way after a series of bizarre delaying tactics by the oppo - having to create a strip from scratch and one of their players going to hospital after being attacked by a particularly vicious, yet stationary, roller - it became the first sunday win of the season for the club.
With skipper Nigel Tyler losing the toss we were understandably put in to bat and made a solid start with Jeremy Hinds and Nigel Rothband seeing off the new ball on a wet pitch to reach 50 off the first 15 overs. Rothband went on to reach his own 50 before getting caught but by then the pitch had dried out nicely and the Old Albanians attack wasn't offering much threat so with Martin Tyler (34), Neil Ret (81) and Nigel Tyler (50no) all recording their highest scores of the season in quickfire fashion 'Wood finished their 45 overs on 277-8.
With a large target to chase, Old Albanians needed a good start, however Neil Ret continued a fine all round performance by clean bowling 3 of the top 4 batsmen early on to put them on the back foot instantly. Only Richardson for Old Albanians showed any real resistance hitting 47 in a patient innings however he became the first of Chorleywood new boy Ed Crick's 5 victims for him to finish with 5-38 of 8 overs. With Dave Brabham and Matt Hurst also chipping in to finish off the innings for 127, 'Wood had completed a 150 run victory to give them the perfect start to the league season.
