Chorleywood Sunday 2nds - League v Old Albanian |
10th Jun 07 - CV - Away |
Won by 15 runs |
In thier first league game of the season a young second team won a thriller away at OAs. Winning the toss and electing to bat on a quick bouncy track things looked bleak after 10 overs with the 2 key batters, Darey and Tom back in the Pavillion (actually there was no Pavillion so back on the grass) with only 20 on the board. Sam (37) and Johnny Rice began the rebuilding and third wicket went down after 25 overs at 91. The skipper would have taken 160 at this stage but Robbie Marsh went on the attack scoring a quick fire 33 coping well with the OAs first teamer, at this point Johnny started to expand his shot range driving magnifcantly through the covers. Matt Grant was next in providing top class support and in one over hit 3 fours, in the last 10 overs 90 were added and Johnny reach a fine chancless ton. We thought 246 was a good score.
After 15 overs of bowling we thought 246 was a bad score, the OAs Saturday first team opening pair had blasted their way to 132, heads were going down but the skipper pulled a master stroke, seting a creative field he bought on Jamie Smithson and in his second over he bowled Winchester, this was the game ball. At this point Robbie Marsh was introduced to the attack and he c and b the number 3, then with Johnny ran out the No 4, and then bowled the opener with a peach....... joy was unconfined and the Wood were on their way to a remarkable turn around. Hendo kept up the pressure with 5 tight overs and then Johnny was back on with Pete and they wrapped up the tail with Pete taking the last 2 in successive deliveries....a fantastic effort by all.
