Chorleywood Sunday 2nds - League v Tring Park |
17th Jun 07 - CV - The Common |
Won by 125 runs |
The Sunday seconds put in a fine performance against Tring Park. Having lost the toss they were inserted on a track which looked like to be a seemer's paradise given the inevitable wet patches following Saturday's storms. The Wood responded positively with Michael Dunning in aggresive mood but at the same time unveiling a new defensive shot (the wonders of
a university education). A couple of wickets fell and at 35-2 the game was in the balance. There followed a solid partnership between the skipper and the in form Johnny Rice, this took the score to 100 and then Johnny cut lose with a flurry of powerful drives. He was given excellent support from Robbie Marsh and Lyndon Ryan and it was a shame he fell just short of a second league century. 221 was a great effort by the team but what was to follow will be know as 'The Day of the Dunnings'. Pete Dunning opened up and took a wicket in his first over thanks to a super catch by Freddie, Brabs then chipped in dismissing the No 3 caught suberly by Lynden at first slip. The standard had been set and the team responded with a faultless fielding display, every catch was taken as first Pete Dunning with 3 then Michael Dunning with 3
more and finally Andrew Dunning with 2 wickets rushed through the hesitant Tring batting line up. Jamie Smithson also bowled well with 1-7 off 4 overs and the skipper did not need to call opon Johnny or last weeks hero Robbie.. an 8 pronged attack is a captains dream and once we had worked out the best ends for the bowler (something the oppo only achieved in the final overs of the first innings) victory was assured. We are now top with 2 wins out of 2.
