Chorleywood Sunday 1sts - League v Tring Park |
17th Jun 07 - CV - Away |
Lost by 3 wickets |
Chorleywood travelled to face a very strong Tring Park for their first match in the Chess Valley League. Having been put in on a soggy wicket, the 'Wood batsmen found it very hard going against a highly disciplined Tring attack. The first 20 overs yielded only 40 runs and things didn't really get much better later on. Only the determined efforts of Matt Watson (46) and Asad Ladha (26) and a late uncultured flourish from skipper Nigel Tyler (19) helped the visitors reach their final total of 143-9 off their allotted overs.
The 'Wood bowling however started off just as disciplined as the Tring attack had been and they found batting no easier than the visitors had earlier on. The opening spell of 20 overs again yielding only 47 runs but for the loss of 5 wickets, Andy Lowe (3-27) and Neil Ret (1-20), along with a sharp run out off his own bowling from Ret doing the damage. Nick Rice and Matt Watson chipped in with a wicket each to leave Tring seven down for less than 100 but then the experienced Tring and Bucks pair of Paul Atkins and Simon Stanway looked comfortable in seeing the hosts home in the 42nd over.
