Chorleywood Saturday 2nds - League v Abbots Langley 2 |
19th May 07 - HL - The Common |
Won by five wickets |
On a damp pitch offering some assistance to the new ball bowlers Chorleywood's opening attack of Johnny Rice (3-26) and Gary Procter (3-18) proved too challenging for the Abbott's top six who were all clean bowled.
There was no respite for the away team when left arm spinner Russell Hodgkinson came on and continued his excellent form (4-16 in the first league game) taking 3-8.
Russell is probably the class act in this Division with his command of line and flight.
Defending 55, Abbots to their credit came out with a positive attitude and veteran Phil Hobbs bowled beautifully. It soon became apparent the battle between Hobbs and Woods Simon Dare, the only batsman to cope with the conditions, was going to be the key and the luck went with the home player whose 31* saw his team to victory with 5 wickets in hand.
