Chorleywood Saturday 2nds - League v Radlett 4 |
26th May 07 - HL - Away |
Lost by 7 wickets |
The seconds fell to a 7 wicket defeat against Radlett on a wet and dreary day during which the conditions conspired against the away side. Losing the toss, The Wood were inserted on a sporting track offering lots of sideways movement to the
seemers but also value for money when aggressive shots were played. After 20 overs it looked like the father and son combination of Simon and Freddie had done the hard work putting on 69 for the second wicket (laying down a marker for the
highest father and son partnership of the season... a challenge to the Rices, Roses, Hodgkinsons and Toms!) and then with Ben Brooks striking an elegant 44 a 200 plus total looked possible. However a middle order collapse meant we needed a
bright and breezy partnership of 30 from Pete Dunning and David Harrigan to post a reasonable 189. Unfortunately at this point it started to rain and the pitch got easier to bat on and the dampness meant our star bowler Russell could not grip the ball. Our seemers tried manfully with Pete Dunning the most successful with a 2 for but it was not enough and Radlett cantered home to a deserved win with 10 overs to spare.
