| With all the teams above us playing, Saturday was a very disappointing day. We turned up at the beautiful Preston ground full of hope of getting in a completed match after last weeks cancellation but the rain won again. We did bat on a very wet track which seemed for the bowlers and had some variable bounce (but given the rain the groundsman can be proud of the fact we were able to play at all). Batting was not easy and your correspondent decided to go for his shots, it worked for a while but on his dismissal at 36-2 the situation was bleak. A little cameo from Jeff who looks in prime form steadied the nerves before the 2 youngest players, Freddie with 37 and Johnny with 34 took us into the realms of safety, both played positively and 137 was a good total in the circumstances. We came out for the second half optimistic and with justification as the spin attack of Rosie and Russell got the ball to spit and turn, both took a wicket, the first a caught and bowled by Rosie (wonders will never cease, his first for decades) and the second as a result of top piece of work from Freddie, at 12-2 we were in the box seat then it rained and it still has not stopped.
