| The Seconds took on the high flying Northchurch outfit on a sunny Saturday and truth be told we tossed better, bowled better, fielded better, batted better and crucially had the better of the conditions. Bowling first on a very wet track
at this attractive cricket ground Gary and Pete bowled beautifully making the most of the wicket which was seeming around, the home side were soon in trouble at 31-7 in part due to 2 excellent catches by Jeff. To their credit the Northchurh tail batted very sensibly as the pitch dried out, Russell and Chas chipped in with a victim each before Johnny mopped up the tail with his most accurate performance of the season so far. 116 was the target and as the oppo skipper had so far this season taken 24 at an average of 4 the result was not a forgone conclusion. Tea was excellent, pizza slices, cream scones cakes etc... a nice way to spend 20 mins, a few dancing girls, some glasses of Pimms would have made it perfect.
Your correspondent and Jeff opened up and steadied the nerves with a 29 run start before I was sent back to the pavilion to join the days collection of disgruntled batsman who had been subjected to an unorthodox interpretation of the LBW law (2 on each side). However Jeff was batting well and Ben was in the destructive form of 6 or so years ago and they blasted The Wood to a comfortable 7 wicket victory.
