Chorleywood Saturday 2nds - League v Letchworth 3 |
4th Aug 07 - HL - Away |
Win by 59 runs |
Despite a chaotic start to the day which involved the team having 3 different meet times and an umpire going to the wrong ground the 2s managed to start the game on time at the lovely Fairfield Hall with 11 players, an umpire, an attractive scorer and her pretty assistant. Your correspondent as acting captain was in a foul mood having spent so long getting people to ground and on winning the toss elected to bat as he thought some time in the middle might be calming. A third half century paternerhip with Jeff put the team in a good position at 88 for 0 when Jeff was bowled for an elegant 44. A mini collapse ensued before Johnny Lyons hit a bright and breezy 34 and with Boo chipping in with 10* the grumpy captain declared on 212-6 after only 45 overs.
Will Pendred got us off to the perfect start with a wicket in the first over and Chas bowled a top class spell with the old ball taking 1-26 off 9 but deserving much more. Jamie Smithson chipped in with the 4th wicket and with Letchworth on 69-4 victory looked a formality, however the home skipper dug in and the 5th wicket partnership lasted up to the 43rd over due to good batting and some dodgy fielding, numerous bowling changes and a hostile spell from Ricey Jnr could not shift this pair then Jamie took a fine catch in the deep, this was the game winning moment as Michael Dunning ripped through the tail finishing with 5-46. This was a top win but as all the teams above also won we are still 34 points off the pace with only 5 games left if we were to win all 5 we would end up with 380 points and may still not go up 380 would have won Div 6 last year!
