Richard SoulsbyNew! |
The Club has confirmed that Richard Soulsby will be standing down as first XI captain and moving on to pastures new in 2012. The Committee and Members would like to thank Rich for his fantastic contribution to the club over the past three seasons, the last two as club captain. Rich has not only made a significant contribution on the field with both bat and gloves, but his leadership at training and on match days has set the high standards that have ensured the first XI remain in Division 1. His coaching work with the colts has also been greatly appreciated. Richard will of course remain a good friend of the club and we wish him all the best next season at a premier league club.

Club Day 2011New! |
The August Bank Holiday weekend saw Chorleywood CC celebrate its annual Club Day on the common. The weather held off, the beer flowed and the karaoke kicked on until the early hours!
Despite only winning one match in the group stages, 'Fred's Team' (the pre tornament favourites) performed when it mattered by winning a "bowl off" (with dave harrigan hitting twice with some majestic bowling) to qualify, before back-to-back wins in the semi-final and final saw them Club Day winners!
It was also fantastic to see the next generation for Chorleywood joining in with a colts team taking part - their one win of the day coming against the eventual champions. Other awards went to:
Shot of the Day: Matt Rose
Boobie Prize: Fred Dare
Young Player of the Day: Matt Hodson
Player of the Day: Tom Smithson
Chorleywood Idol: Steve Ord
A huge thank you to Tom Smithson for his efforts in organising the day, with fantastic support from Lesley Neal for the bacon butties; Lauren and Harriet behind the bar; Neil Rett for the trophies; Simon Dare for the BBQ, and for jumping behind the bar with Mike Rose later in the evening; Steve Ord and Ken Moore for scoring; and Andy Orange as 'Music Master'.

Scott tops world in battingNew! |
Forget England opener Alastair Cook's 294 runs of "remorseless accumulation" against India; forget Ricky Ponting's thrashing of the Sri Lankan attack two days ago; forget even the great Sachin Tendulkar's bid for 100 test hundreds.
Currently, the world's number one batsman is a 34-year-old from Wanganui.

Great Team Performance by Saturday 2sNew! |
Toss won and we batted first on a perfect cricket day. Good to be back at the Wood after 5 away games with what looked like a strong, balanced 2nd 11 to play Hatfield Crusaders 1’s.
JOD & Tiger Hodgkinson batted sensibly in seeing off the new ball with an opening stand of 32 off 10. The in-form Tweedie strode to the crease in his normal confident manner and proceeded to shepherd the attack to all parts. Tiger was caught at 1st slip for 19 and given the standard of fielding from Crusaders he was definitely unlucky – a grab that was literally unseen. This brought young Tomsie, who is maturing into a quality cricketer. A classy innings stopped at 32 by a dubious catch. Shame the new site screen hooligan CCTV was not up as it would have been used. Matt Rose again dominated the crease and chipped in with a smart 20 with his legal bat. Tweeds kicked on, reaching his 2nd 50 in 3 digs, great effort. The Shipster chimed in but was saving himself for later (read on). On came the two whippets (PD and Botts), who were simply brilliant. Great one day running and placement. Nice to have the luxury of Botts, PD, Vikash at 7,8 and 9. PD compiled a quick 37 and a partnership of 64 with Botts while Vikash continued the flow to get us to 234 off 53. Vik 4 N.O and Botts 37 N.O. Very happy.
New ball taken with the view to unleashing our new boy PD and Mr Consistency Sujoy (a.k.a Bell). Crusaders were very keen and although an early wicket was taken (PD c&b) they cruised to 52 off 7. We needed to slow things down, hence wiley old Ruskie was called on (70% fit) and he bowled brilliantly. He has been instrumental in the 2’s recent revival. Dual spin was used with Tomsie taking the road end. Things slowed and Tomsie jagged the 2nd wicket. Crusaders then powered with some competent batting from their skipper and No 4 adding 89 for the 3rd wicket in quick time (143 off 23) before the Ruskie / Bottsi duet struck. Another change and back to class with PD but this time down the hill. Much tighter spell and success with The Shipster taking an awesome catch at sq leg to dismiss their skipper for 66. Catches win matches. Crusaders were 4 down with a big sniff at victory – needing 92 off 25 overs. Alas, Ruskie and PD struck again quickly with both bowling their herts out to the point of spent. Tomsie called back to replace Ruskie and the logical call was Sujoy at the other end who all year has bowled infinitely better in his 2nd spell but given the Crusaders taste of pace the skipper elected to inject The Shipster. CWCC’s new left arm all-rounder, 50 years the junior of his tutor. First over ...1.1 2nd 112W1 3rd over 1..WW. and final over ...W. Figures more associated to a Martin Russell or a Chunky. Quality bowling by the Shipster – supported by some good catching amidst the raucous behaviour of the Tweedie appreciation society.
Thanks to the 3's for popping in to support. Great effort all round.

MCC match todayNew! |
Regrettably we have had to cancel the MCC match today because of our waterlogged square. With all the recent heavy showers it has been impossible to prepare a suitable wicket. A huge disappointment for all. We hope we might get an extra MCC fixture for next year in addition to the next scheduled one in 2013
