Chorleywood Sunday 1sts - Friendly v Rickmansworth |
20th Apr 08 - Friendly - The Common |
Won by 8 wickets |
On a cold and damp day CWCC lost the toss in the first game of the season and a multinational Rickmansworth side elected to bat. Lyons, Hattea and Firth all suggested they would be able to set a challenging total but all 3 were dismissed once set primarily because they struggled to force the pace against an accurate and disciplined attack of Retty, Chunky and the returning Luke Vivian all of whom were well supported in the field.. The key moment came in the 16th over when Lyons was caught in the deep by Tom, a fine running catch with a Retty style tumble. The ground fielding was top class given the weather and the fact the most players were not involved, the ball followed Martin and the Skipper unmercifully. At 116-5 there was still the possibility of a contest but then on came Andy Dunning, he bowled with good control and span out the Ricky lower order taking 4-25, a return that did not flatter him at all. The Wood had a target of 143.
The crowd was building up as word got out that Luke had his pads on, however they had to wait as the skipper (probably the complete batting opposite to Luke) and Tom reformed their excellent opening partnership of 3 years ago and yet again put on a 50 opening partnership with Tom timing the ball well and reaching 52, the Skipper was not timing it well but he never looked like getting out and with the score on 82-0 got bored and retired. Tom also ran off after reaching his half century. A mini collapse took place which then bought Luke to the crease, the bars empty and he did not disappoint smashing 39* off 26 balls taking us to an 8 wicket victory.
